How to Prevent Food Wastage

YAM AND COCOYAM

Sometimes no matter how hard we try not to waste food,there are usually some left over. Good news is that we do not have to throw them away. There are some people who would kill just to have a bite; so why waste it at all? Moreover have you ever been near wasted foods? The sight and smell make you go nauseating.

Here is one great method to preserving those leftover cooked yams and cocoyam.
You can do this immediately when you find out there are excess or maybe the following day if you are not too sure.

• Slice each pieces in to thinner pieces, you can end up slicing one slice of yam in to 3 or 4 slices.
• Put them in a tray and put in the sun to dry (as dry as flakes)
• When they are very dry that they snap when they break, then you are good to go! Put them in a mortar and beat/pound to smaller pieces with pestle (as small as grains of rice)
• Pack and store in any container that is airtight until you are ready to cook.

HOW TO COOK 

• Measure how much you want to cook.
• Put in a container and pour clean water, make sure the water covers it.
• Leave for about 8 minutes
• Wash and tie it up in a clean satchel
• Put in a boiling water of 4 mugs of water
• Allow it boil for 10mins
• Take it off stove and start preparing stew(best not to use processed tomato paste) . Do not blend the tomato and peppers to a fine paste for greater taste.
• Pour the cooked yam flakes and stir together
• Let them simmer together for about 4minutes
• Serve hot with any refreshing drink of your choice.
